Before the leaves freeze in there

Gutter Cleaning in St. Paul

Troughs and downspouts cleared by hand and flushed, so winter meltwater runs off your roof instead of backing up under it.

The Cheapest Repair You Will Ever Do

Gutter cleaning is not interesting work and nobody looks forward to booking it. It is also the single cheapest thing you can do to avoid a genuinely expensive winter, because in a climate like this one a blocked gutter does not just overflow. It freezes, and then it decides where the meltwater goes.

We are a Saint Paul business, based on Cretin Avenue, and we clear gutters across the city from September through freeze-up. Starting at $120, debris hauled away, and you do not pay until it is done.

Why It Matters More Here

Minnesota puts gutters through something a milder climate does not.

Ice dams start in a full gutter

This is the one that costs real money in St. Paul. A gutter packed with wet leaves freezes solid, meltwater backs up under the shingles, and you find out in February when a ceiling stains. Clearing them in late fall is far cheaper than what an ice dam does.

Two seasons, not one

The boulevard maples drop helicopter seeds in June and they pack a trough as tightly as leaves do. Oaks hang on until November. A lot of St. Paul houses genuinely need it twice: once after the seeds, once after the leaves.

Old roofs, original gutters

Steep pitches, three-storey Victorians, and original half-round gutters are normal here. We work off ladders with standoffs so nothing rests on the gutter lip, and we know which old seams to leave alone rather than pull apart.

What a Cleaning Includes

Every gutter job, no line-item surprises.

  • Leaves, seeds, grit, and shingle sand cleared out of the troughs by hand
  • Downspouts checked and cleared, not just the gutter above them
  • Everything flushed with water so we can see it actually runs
  • Debris bagged and taken away, not left on your lawn
  • A look at loose hangers, separated seams, and spouts draining at the foundation
  • Photos if anything needs your attention

What a Blocked Gutter Actually Costs

The bill never arrives as a gutter bill.

Foundation and basement

An overflowing gutter dumps water straight down against the wall. In a neighborhood of hundred-year-old limestone and block basements, that shows up as seepage.

Fascia and soffit

Water sitting in a clogged trough wicks back into the wood behind it. Rotten fascia is a carpentry bill, not a cleaning bill.

The gutter itself

A trough full of soaked debris is heavy. That weight pulls hangers loose and opens seams, which is how a cleaning turns into a replacement.

Gutter Cleaning Questions

How much does gutter cleaning cost in St. Paul?

It starts at $120. The number depends on the size of the house, how many storeys, how much is up there, and whether the roof is walkable. A quote is free, and you do not pay until the job is done.

When should gutters be cleaned in Minnesota?

Late fall, once the leaves are actually down, is the important one, because that is what prevents ice dams. A lot of houses want a second pass in early summer after the maple seeds drop. There is more on the timing in our guide to when to clean gutters in the Twin Cities.

Do you clean the downspouts too?

Yes, and it is the part people skip. A clear trough feeding a blocked downspout still overflows. We check each one and flush the whole run so we can see the water come out the bottom.

I have gutter guards. Do I still need this?

Usually, just less often. Guards keep the big leaves out, but shingle grit, seeds, and needles still get through and build up into a sludge underneath. We take the guards off where they come off cleanly, clear what is underneath, and put them back.

Can you do the windows at the same time?

Yes, and most people do. We are already there with the ladders, so combining window cleaning with the gutters in one visit means one trip charge instead of two.

What do you do with the debris?

It comes with us. We bag it out of the gutters and take it away, and we rinse down anything that splashed onto the siding or the walk on the way out.
