All winter, Twin Cities

Snow Removal in St. Paul & Minneapolis

Sidewalks, steps, entries, and driveways cleared and salted, so you are not out there at six in the morning.

What We Clear

The same crew that washes your windows in July is the one shoveling your walk in January. We do the hand work a plow truck skips, which is most of what actually matters at a house.

  • Public sidewalk in front of the house, curb to curb
  • Front walk, steps, and stoop cleared down to the surface
  • Driveway and the plow ridge the city leaves at the end of it
  • A path to the mailbox, the garbage cans, and the side door
  • Ice melt on the steps and any spot that glazes over
  • Snow piled where it will not block sight lines or the storm drain

The sidewalk is on you

In both Saint Paul and Minneapolis, clearing the public sidewalk in front of your house is the property owner's job, and the city gives you about a day after the snow stops. If a neighbor complains, the city can clear it and bill you for it.

An icy walk is also the kind of thing a letter carrier or a visitor falls on. Keeping it clear is cheaper than the alternative in every direction.

Who Books It

Mostly the same houses we clean windows for in the summer.

Homeowners who are done with it

Sometimes it is a bad back, sometimes it is a 6 a.m. flight, sometimes it is just not wanting to do it any more. Either way the walk is clear before the neighbors are up.

People who travel in winter

A house with an unshoveled walk in January tells the whole street that nobody is home. We keep it looking lived in while you are gone.

Listings and vacant houses

Nobody tours a house they cannot walk up to. We keep the walk, steps, and driveway clear so showings happen and the photos still work.

Snow Removal Questions

How soon after it snows do you come?

We work through the storm and after it, and the goal is to have you cleared the same day the snow stops. Saint Paul and Minneapolis both expect sidewalks cleared within 24 hours, and a complaint can end with the city clearing it and sending you the bill, so we treat that as the deadline.

Do you charge per snowfall or for the season?

Either. Per visit is simple if you only want help with the big ones. A seasonal rate is the same number every month no matter how bad the winter gets, which most people prefer once they have lived through a January here.

Do you plow driveways?

We shovel and blow rather than plow. That means we get the walk, the steps, the stoop, and the edges a truck cannot reach, and we can do a normal city driveway. A large rural driveway is a plow truck job, and we will tell you if that is what you have.

Do you salt?

Yes, on the steps and anywhere that ices up. We use what it takes and not more, because the runoff ends up in the lawn and eventually in the river.

What about the ridge the plow leaves at the end of the driveway?

That is part of the job. It is the heaviest snow of the whole storm and the reason people hurt themselves, so we clear it rather than leaving it for you.

Can you cover a vacant house or a listing?

Yes, and agents do book this. Tell us the address and we keep it walkable all winter so showings happen. See our page for real estate agents for how we bill that.
